Laura's Grandmother's Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
Flour | 3 cups |
Sugar | 1½ cups |
Cocoa Powder | ¾ cup |
Butter | 4½ tbsp. |
Buttermilk | 2¼ cup |
Baking Soda | 2 ¼ tsp. |
Salt | 1 tsp. |
Vanilla | 1 tsp. |
Preparation
- Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Mix softened butter (room temperature) with dry ingredients, until the texture is like small peas.
- Mix baking soda and buttermilk. Mixture will foam. Add this to the dry ingredients/butter mixture. This will be a thick batter.
- Grease and flour a 9 x 13 baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes at 350oF.
Icing with Marshmallow Cream
Powdered Sugar | 1 lb. |
Butter | 2 sticks (1 cup) |
Marshmallow Cream | 1 jar (7 oz.) |
Preparation
- Mix butter and sugar, and stir in marshmallow cream!
Alternative Icing
Milk | ½ cup |
Flour | 2½ tbsp. |
Butter | 1 cup |
Powdered Sugar | 1 lb. |
Salt | ¼ tsp. |
Vanilla | 1 tsp. |
Preparation
- Cook the milk and flour together until it forms a very thick paste. Cool completely.
- Beat butter and (milk/flour) paste together until blended.
- Add powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla and beat until fluffy.
