- Heat butter on medium-to-high heat until melted. As the butter comes to a boil it will start to separate, with a froth forming on top and sediment settling at the bottom.
- Lower heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes. The melted butter will become translucent and the sediment will turn golden brown in color.
- Remove from heat, add salt to allow any residual solid particles to settle. Cool and strain to remove the sediment and other particles.
